Help To Buy Scheme

Oil on canvas. The colours are a bit richer than they appear here. It’s inspired by a vintage photograph of a young laundress sleeping in the street. She has half an eye open to protect her livelihood: a mobile laundry wringer kept close by her makeshift bed.

  1. Very good, well-defined painting, Jenny. I took a contemporary art class in college as an elective. The portrait defined social issues and the plight of the homeless as it existed in the 19th century Victorian era. Indifference by the upper class towards the poor was quite commonplace in that era which also extended in the major urban cities of America as well.
