Our excercises tonight at Atelier class began normally, sketching an actor called Tom, in 5, 10 and 15 minute poses.
It wasn’t working for me. Hopeless. Then the Chef d’Atelier said, let’s try with the wrong hand, use your other hand. This is the result.

Posted in Painting Diary with tags charcoal sketch, Female nude, Life Drawing, seated nude in charcoal on January 7, 2012 by JennyIt’s so great to return to my local Life Drawing Club after the holidays. [It only costs £10, the models are good and nobody tells you what to do - my idea of great]. It was full to capacity, with lots of talented people and it’s a pleasure to catch up with them in the half-time coffee break. This is my charcoal sketch.

Posted in Art Prints, Painting Diary with tags Charcoal, Jennifer Caron Hall, Life Drawing, Nude, September, Sketch on September 3, 2011 by JennyLife drawing club started up again today after the summer break. Keeping it simple, I only took my sketchpad and charcoal with me – and a soft eraser of course (invaluable).
I think I’m getting better. I took the photo with my phone- as always it casts a blue tint over what should be cream/white, but I quite like that.
Guest Star
Posted in Painting Diary with tags Leslie Caron, Life Drawing, one legged woman, Sketch by Leslie Caron, unijambiste on May 29, 2011 by JennyMy mother Leslie Caron came with me to the life drawing club yesterday, and her charming drawing in charcoal and Conté white is making a guest appearance here. She has not drawn for thirty years or so, but she used to paint quite a lot, and I have a beautiful painting by her hanging on my wall at home.
She finished this sketch with a flourish, stepped back to see what she had done and shrieked ’mais elle est unijambiste! ‘ She’d forgotten to draw the second leg.
Leslie Caron’s autobiography Thank Heaven has just been published in French and the English version can be found here:
