Bietole

One of my favourite vegetables – I think it’s a type of chard, but the Italians call it Bietole (pronounced Bee-ay-tol-ay). I finally got an iPad to draw on, and it’s my first picture using the Brushes app with  ’Just Mobile’ pen. Is the iPad better to draw on than the iPhone? About ten times better – it’s truly amazing.

A béret branché is a trendy beret. But actually, this face reminds me of Damian Lewis playing Sergeant Brody in Homeland. More than a little frightening, depending on which angle you look at it. It’s unfinished.

Olympian 2

Athlete / Olympian

It’s a second draft. I like the colours even more. It’s definitely an athlete, an Olympian. Moving house makes it difficult to write.

Here’s the entire charcoal sketch from this morning’s Life Drawing Club. I was going to cover his modesty in a fig leaf, but there’s really nothing modest about it. So instead I covered the entire figure with tiny coloured leaves and, well, here it is. A sort of Pan figure, with apple.

Rhapsody in Blue

I’m back from a family holiday in the mountains. The view of the sun rising behind a crown of snowy peaks, has embedded itself like a smile inside me.

This face is one of the things that I painted on my return to London. I used a digital pen to make lots of scratchy marks on a bamboo tablet plugged into the side of my computer.

Click on the painting if you want to see it in larger size.

I like painting with digital tools much more than using paints. You can’t beat the translucence, the way the light shines through the colours on the screen.
