Proper

Posted in Painting Diary with tags , , , , on March 20, 2012 by Jenny

So it’s really quite strange learning ‘proper’ painting. I see what I’ve done and have no sense that it comes from my own hand. None at all. However, it does seem to me that I’m making progress in learning to paint like ‘everyone else’. This is a second draft. Once I’ve mastered these techniques, which may take a while because it’s very difficult, I will have earned the right to decide if I want to paint like that. Posted from the sitting room at Soho House, London (with a large cappuccino).

Second draft, female nude portrait in oils

Atelier portrait

This is a detail of a nude torso portrait in oils, began last night at Atelier class. We have the model for three consecutive weeks, so it will change considerably over time. I’m posting it on rather a good day in which I received two interesting commissions for portraits.
