My mother Leslie Caron came with me to the life drawing club yesterday, and her charming drawing in charcoal and Conté white is making a guest appearance here. She has not drawn for thirty years or so, but she used to paint quite a lot, and I have a beautiful painting by her hanging on my wall at home.

She finished this sketch with a flourish, stepped back to see what she had done and shrieked  ’mais elle est unijambiste! ‘ She’d forgotten to draw the second leg.

This is my first rough sketch of Bump the cat (see below) and my favourite of all. Sometimes it’s better not to complete a picture.

This morning at the life drawing club the model had a lovely rounded shape. I was a bit rusty and several sheets of paper lay on the floor before I started to get something. I used oil crayons.
