Life Drawing 9

Posted in Painting Diary on August 14, 2010 by Jenny

This morning I slept late, after a very busy week, and only got to my local Life Drawing Club with 1.5 hours to work on drawing or painting the model.

I was going to buy oil paints and try oil painting for the first time, but events caught up with me and I never got to the art shop to buy them.

So instead I used the chalk pastels which gave me so much trouble the first time I used them. This time, I am really pleased with the results. If you smudge them as soon as you apply them, these chalks are absolutely wonderful. The drawing is quite big in my sketch book — I wish I could fit the entire thing in my scanner.

When you’re overexcited and cannot sleep – what do you do? Paint an exotic face framed with a hat made of foliage, naturally. At least, that’s what I do. I painted it on my iPhone. It made me think of someone in the carnival at Rio, hence the name. It could possibly be a transvestite.
